Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn
My better half discovered this book and had to keep commenting about how fucked up the story was as she read it but how good the writing was so I had to give it a go myself.
It is a tale of a relationship, alternatively told from both the man and the woman’s points of view. What starts as a fairy tale love story between two successful, good looking NYC privileged people turns sour when they both lose their jobs, their safety net money and they have to move to a small Midwest town to care for the husband’s invalid parents.
Things go from bad to worse and even worse when the wife, Amy, disappears under, apparently, violent circumstances and we learn more about her from her diary entries as the husband, Nick, tries to clear his name and find out what exactly happened.
If I say much of anything else, I will be giving away some of the many unexpected twists'n'turns, but expect the unexpected, don't trust anyone's words, essentially no one is quite what they seem, and Flynn makes this a literal page turner - you need to find out where the hell things are going next! One of the better writers I've come across recently.
Certainly a recommended read!
