The Van Buren Wheels - 10"

The Van Buren Wheels were a Phoenix based garage outfit featuring our pal Jaime (ex-Dirty Babies, current Thee Faded Pyctures) on Vox organ. With Vince on lead vox, Steve on guitar, Brew on bass and a drummer who is not named in the liner notes, these cab drivers ("wheels") often visited Van Buren street for its easy access to illegal goods and activities, and when they were not up to no good, they were blasting out Back From the Grave styled garage rockers.

Starting off with a high-energy, low-fi, distorted frat-rocker "C'mon and Be Mine", they then give us a sing-along dance number "Hang Out With Me"and then a Question Mark & the Mysterians-like garage rocker, "Moody Judy" (dig the trashy guitar solo and snappy drum break!). More cool garage rock'n'roll in "(She Got) Green Eyes", leading into the Remains/Blues Magoos-ish slow, moody, keyboard-driven "Soon I'll Be Gone" (nice organ solo, and melodic guitar break along with great vocals) before closing with the staccato-stomper "Wicked Lies".

Sorry I never got to see these cats - they were a rockin' bunch! In their stead, check out Jamie's current combo, Thee Faded Pyctures!
