Bluesin' By the Bayou - compilation

I'm always interested in old school blues compilations in the hopes that it will have some artists that I'm not familiar with or even cuts by familiar artists that I haven't heard before. The fact that this one is packed with swampy, Louisiana blues made it a no-brainer as a spontaneous purchase.

This 28 track comp has (comparatively) big names like Slim Harpo, Lazy Lester (always great), zydeco pioneer Clifton Chenier and Lightnin' Slim, but is jam-packed with plenty of extra goodies from the likes of Thadeous Declouet (more excellent zydeco), Mr. Mojo, Silas Hogan, Joe Rich, Jimmy Anderson (the latter two are damn near as swampy as Slim Harpo!) and so many others!

Joe Mayfield's "I'm a Natural Born Man" and Honey Boy Allen's "I'm a Real Lover Baby" both have some great harp playing, Boogie Jake does indeed do a Louisiana boogie on "Early Morning Blues", Boozoo Chavis gives some terrific accordion action on the zydeco jump "Forty One Days", Lonesome Sundown swings on "I'm a Samplin' Man", Leroy Washington is fantastic on the heartfelt blues of "Lost Love Letter Blues" and there is plenty more.

Really terrific comp of real, old school, Bayou-fueled blues - great from start to finish!
