This article gives a good overview of Howie's many accomplishments, from his time in the 70's NYC band The Blessed (name taken from Bowie's "Hang On To Yourself" - they changed the line to "we're the Blessed") to his current work and his innumerable musical projects in between - even Rolling Stone has acknowledged his accomplishments. I only met him once, but he was totally nice and personable and from the outpouring of love online, he had more friends than one can count. Another taken way too young.
