Kepi Ghoulie and Friends with the Psyatics at Red Dwarf, Thursday 10-20-22
Of course, any time Kepi comes to town is an event that everyone should attend so when we found out that he was returning to Vegas (great to see him playing acoustic a few months ago) with a super-star electric band featuring B-Face (Queers, Nobodys, Groovie Ghoulies and many others) and Atom Bomb (also many assemblages), we had to figure out some way to be part of it and seeing that it was an electric night, The Psyatics were able to jump on the bill. Despite a last minute venue change, there was a terrific turnout of rabid Ghoulie fans!
With three hours to fill and considering Kepi's songs average a minute or two, the Psyatics pulled out an hour-ish long set filled with songs from the various albums, some wacky covers (including the Banana Splits' "Gonna Find Me a Cave" - fitting for cartoon Saturday mornings shared with the Groovie Ghoulies back in the day) and a few brand new tunes from our upcoming album, to be released in 2023. As usual, Jack and I managed to take over a good portion of the floor space and good-naturedly terrorized the audience and staff alike. Fun times!
For this tour, Kepi and company are playing the entirety of the Groovie Ghoulies' Fun in the Dark album, which is fitting as B-Face was part of the band at the time of that recording. Considering that this record is less than a half hour, they had extra time to fill, so they did two sets, finishing out the first set with a number of audience requests - including the ever-popular "Beast With Five Hands". Plenty more requests for the second set (after an intermission for selling merch) including Melanie's fave, their cover of Chuck Berry's "All Aboard", amongst many others.
Plenty of smiles, lots of laughs, some slam-dancing, tons of hugs and a good time was had by all. Hopefully Kepi and co. will continue to come out regularly for these Vegas excursions!
