Jane Foster, the Saga of Valkyrie

One more that I picked up at Cemetery Pulp last weekend, again as a total whim, as I was not familiar with these changes - the man we knew as Thor no longer wield Mjolnir and is simply referred to as Odinson now, Jane Foster now control the hammer and is now Thor, the Goddess of Thunder, but her mortal frame is simultaneously dying of advanced cancer, even while Thor fights multiple battles simultaneously!

After almost dying, Jane gives up the mantle of Thor (which is eventually returned to the Thor that we know - Odinson) but, after winning her war on cancer, she then picks up the mantle of the last Valkyrie! Apparently, Marvel is doing its best to make up for the meek Jane Foster that whined'n'pined for Dr. Don Blake for years in the 1960's!

The Valkyrie tale gets a little esoteric, as well, bringing in some characters that I am not familiar with and also some huge concepts such as the "death of death" (which is stalled fairly easily, in the long run for something that big). But there is always an earthly aspect as well and guests stars abound and there's even a tiny bit of a flashback to when Jane was made an Asgardian back in the 60's but wasn't able to handle it, unlike now.

I really enjoyed this and thought that both the writing and artwork were more than well done. Good stuff!
