Weird Science Volume 2

Like the EC Crime compilation I recently read, this Weird Science graphic novel combines a number of early EC sci-fi stories that again mixes in other genres, such as horror, crime, suspense, and whatever else they chose to throw in at any particular time!

With terrific artists like Wally Wood (an all-time fave of mine), Al Feldstein, Jack Kamen, Harvey Kurtzman, Joe Orlando and more working alongside writers such as Al Feldstein, William Gaines, Kurtzman and others, the quality is assured throughout. While today some of the tales are somewhat predictable, and some of the "science" in the sci-fi is unrealistic, overall, the stories are pretty darn sophisticated for early 50's comic books!

Since this is a sci-fi comp, there is a lot of space exploration and futuristic settings, but also other dimensions, androids, time travel and its related paradoxes, strange inventions, alien monsters, sex changes (!), and plenty of twists'n'turns that even today took me by surprise (although, I admit, there are some basic cliches that - at least now - have been a bit overused).

As with most EC, there are lots of relationship issues, jealousies, adulteries, murders, and other real life drama that combines with the sci-fi elements for relatable but weird'n'wild stories.

I've always been an EC fan so I'll recommend most of their releases, but this is particularly good.
