The Winding Stream - The Carters, The Cashes And The Course Of Country Music

The Carter Family's initial recordings in 1927 (along with Jimmie Rogers) are the basis for all country music and bluegrass to follow. Their iconic songs (often either written or "discovered" by patriarch AP Carter) continue to be part of the American landscape as "Wildwood Flower", "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", "Keep On the Sunny Side" are still sung by artists of all styles to this day. this documentary follows their career and tells their story that continues through the generations.

With original recordings and video (when available) we hear the tales of the original members - AP, his wife Sara and sister-in-law Maybelle - and how they formed and first recorded and how the children eventually joined. Their success grew with the start of the powerful Border Radio phenomenon and they became national and international stars. Of course, as the family toured with other, similar artists, their story became entwined with Johnny Cash's after he fell in love and eventually married June Carter. Interviews - early and later day - with Johnny highlight this informative documentary and, of course, the music brings it all to life.

Currently on Netflix, this is well worth seeing.
