Powersolo - Egg
Well, I've kinda sucked at trying to describe the other two Powersolo CD's that I have, so, what the hell, I'll try one more time. Once again, we have Kim Kix, Atomic Child and JC Benz joined by some friends to produce another deranged batch of maniacal music such as only Powersolo can concoct.
Here we get some hip, happenin', organ-fueled soul sonics for the opening theme of "Think About It", complete with groovy backing vocals and a real swing to it. "Knucklehead" is filled with fuzz but is a combination of Devo, the Small Faces and pure bubblegum, although with added, affected vocals, just to make it that much odder. They go for an upbeat garage rocker filled with "oh-oh's" in "Dans Les Rues De Paris" and come up with an almost normal'n'great rock'n'roll number. They're back in the groove zone for "Dumb Dumb Dumb" complete with soulful horns and a terrifically distorted guitar solo, then begin "Plasma Crystal Dope" with their take on an Native American beat, which devolves into a rap number! A staccato riff runs through "Rockin' 8" like an off-kilter Kinks song done by the Eagles of Death Metal, "Every Little Girl" is more modern soul, not unlike The Heavy - new-ish beats with 60's soul influences - and "Aloha New York" is a country parody - it seems like they have to do at least one per album so that they have an excuse for some cool pedal steel. On "I Know This Girl" they combine some pop'n'garage'n'cool guitar licks, then create a slow, 60's-styled, Southern Culture on the Skids-kinda number in "White Choklet", and sorta channel the B-52's in "Messerschmidt" before ending with the Cramps-ian horror-surf sounds backing "Gentle on the Nards".
Again, no words of mine can properly convey the oddness inherent in Powersolo's unbalanced minds, but I would certainly suggest that you see for yourself if you can handle the madness within!
