The Swamp Gospel, the Implosions, the Van der Rohe at the Huntridge Tavern, Saturday Sept 7, 2019
The Swamp Gospel always has a great time at the Huntridge Tavern - good people, cheap drinks and a crowd that is ready for some ol' fashioned soul salvation! Last night, despite nearly every band we know playing elsewhere and those who weren't were having parties, we still had a good crowd out early for the SG opening set. We added several new songs (a couple that were revamped, unrecorded Thee Fourgiven tunes), new sermons and some table surfin' proselytizin'! We appreciate everyone that made it out and joined the congregation!

Our pals the Implosions are always an explosive good time with their Vegas-themed mix of melodic punk rock and Cramps-ian garage rock'n'roll. The Heximer rhythm section lays down the big beat behind the Post's guitar wranglin' (Dave) and impressive lead vocals (Adrienne). These two dynamic duos have quickly become one of the town's fave new bands! Next Saturday is their CD release party at the Mint but I snatched up a copy early, so more on that album soon!
Vegas does not have much of a garage rock'n'roll scene these days (did it ever? I guess there were some at one point), but the Van der Rohe is carrying the mantle now with their take on fashionable, 60's styled rock'n'roll music. Led by vocalist Will (also in rockabillyist Will and the High Rollers) and guitarist Cromm (who has his own solo career now, as well as appearing in other local combos) and a varied rhythm section (they had a new-to-me bassist this evening although drummer Omar has been with them a while), they blasted through tunes from their self-titled EP/CD amongst others to the point of Cromm breaking a string and borrowing my Gospel git to finish out their set.
Really fun night from start to finish - thanks to Kate and the Huntridge Tavern!
