The Rubble Collection - Volumes 1-20

Once again, I'm not sure where I found out about this comp, and it took my a while to actually purchase it since it is not cheap, although when you calculate the cost per CD, it's pretty reasonable for what you get. What you get is 20 (!) CD's of late 60's psych and freakbeat along with two high quality booklets with rare photos and a fairly astounding amount of information about each combo. The graphics are all super groovy and top-notch, as well!

The records were originally released by Bam Caruso in the 80's, and were later compiled into two collections, which are now combined into this massive set. Of course, if you collect this style of music, you most likely have some of these cuts, but the sheer amount of tuneage here in one place makes this a worthwhile addition to your collection.

With bands as well known as the Pretty Things, the Spencer Davis Group, Fleur de Lys, Q65 and the Crazy World of Arthur Brown sitting side-by-side with more clique-y groups like Wimple Winch, the Misunderstood and the Soft Machine and tons of basically unknown bands, you get more familiar numbers mixed with tunes you most likely never heard before, for a fun overall experience.

There somehow seems to be an almost endless supply of songs popping up for these 60's comps and, of course, some are better than others, but if nothing else, this will give you a good idea of what bands you might want to delve into further. If you're ok with the investment up front and you want to discover more about 60's psych, this is a good value for your money. Sure, not everything is great and there's some downright goofy cuts here and plenty that are kinda wimpy, but it's all entertaining!
